There are no available statistics about worldwide demand for fragrance ingredients, and most fragrance manufacturers do not release details of their sales. 
The scent of vanilla is certainly hugely popular. It is present in most perfumes, sometimes in very small proportions, to impart a sense of sweetness and familiarity. Most vanilla scents do not come from natural vanilla, as it is an expensive spice, but from chemical substitutes vanillin and ethyl-vanillin, synthesized from wood pulp.

There are many popular perfume ingredients used in the fragrance industry, and here are some of the most common ones:
